Sustainable solutions

Providing cleaner sources of energy

Australia Pacific LNG values the opportunity we have to play an important role in delivering cleaner sources of energy to Australia and the world, both with CSG and LNG. When used for electricity production, coal seam gas emits significantly lower carbon emissions when compared to coal-fired generation. And, up to nine tonnes of emissions are avoided when CSG (which is liquefied into LNG)is substituted for a tonne of coal in electricity generation in customer countries, thus decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.

Operating sustainably

We understand our responsibilities and are committed to exploring innovative and sustainable solutions to reduce the impact of our CSG to LNG operations on the environment and community. To date this includes:

  • First CSG project to use reverse osmosis plants to turn brackish, unusable water into purified water suitable for a number of beneficial uses
  • Use of energy efficient compressors to reduce noise, emissions and fuel burning and have greater power with a smaller environmental footprint
  • Lower impact seismic surveys using much smaller survey machines, weighing between one-third and one-sixth of conventional trucks are more manoeuvrable and have less impact on the environment in which they operate
  • Use of hybrid drill rigs - which are safer; more compact and drill faster meaning there is less impact to the environment and surrounding communities
  • Increased employment opportunities especially in the resources, transport and manufacturing industries – we are promoting the employment of local people and suppliers wherever viable to contribute to sustainable communities
  • Driver education and training, and the use of in-vehicle monitoring systems that increase safer driving in local areas where the Project operates
