Our Environmental Impact Statement

An EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) is a document prepared to describe the potential impacts of a proposed activity on the environment. An EIS describes the impacts, and documents ways to avoid, minimise or mitigate potential negative impacts of a project.

The EIS Process

In April 2009, the Queensland Coordinator-General declared the Australia Pacific LNG Project “significant” under the State Development and Public Organisation Act (1971). This means that an environmental impact statement (EIS) was required.

A year of research, surveys, consultation and preparation by a large team of specialists from a broad range of fields went into preparing the Project’s Environmental Impact Statement.

The Australia Pacific LNG Environmental Impact Statement was released by the Coordinator-General on the 29th March 2010 for public comment and examination by government advisory agencies.

Some facts about our Environmental Impact Statement:

  • It describes the potential impacts of the project and ways to avoid, minimise or mitigate these impacts

  • It has just over 10,000 pages of information about the project including technical reports based on scientific studies

  • It is made up of five volumes plus an Executive Summary

  • The volumes are:

    1. Overview

    2. Gas fields

    3. Gas Pipeline

    4. LNG Facility

    5. Attachments

  • It includes modelling of the cumulative impacts of other projects, including CSG to LNG projects, in the same study area
